5 Considerations When Starting a Business as a Single Parent

Building a building a business is not difficult, it is tedious and a journey to be taken a step at a time. Bite off little by little not all at once. It is like a puzzle, as you find one piece you will have to search for the next. You will complete a little each day and before you know it,  you have put 5,000 pieces together and have a beautiful picture just like the one you imagined on the cover!

  1. How Do You Know the Business Idea is viable? Two things’ questions? Does it meet a need, or does it fulfill a want? People buy from people they like, so you must be warm and inviting!
  2. How much time will it require? Hah, that is a question that is not a one size fits all, truthfully it depends on what you are doing. I will, however, say you need to have a planned schedule and it is not about time as much as it is about dedication and consistency. If you say you are going to commit 20 hrs. a week to building your business be sure to have your task list in front of you and be determined and accountable to doing just that. Before you know it, you will look at it and see a masterpiece. By the inch life’s a stench, by the yard it is just too hard! ~ Unknown~ this basically means take a little at a time and you will get it done easily.
  3. What resources are needed? well it depends on your business model; I prefer to have the A-line less over head and little to no dept at all. You will need to have some type of guidance for you field or business. I suggest you find an expert in your area this is in the field you are looking to start and find a way to get some mentorship. Offer some assistance in exchange for knowledge. Also take courses and invest time into the education piece for your businesses. Always start with the cheapest way, free YouTube up to Training Courses.
  4. How will it effect my family dynamic? That is completely up to you, you are Appointed Boss of your life and schedule. It will be an adjustment to your daily routines and schedule. How you create time and space for your business is depended upon how much time and energy you decide to do it. No matter what be sure to dedicate the time you have set aside and outsource the rest, have your children to assist if you are able involve them as much as you can. Be sure you are balancing though.
  5. What are my support systems? Believe or not your community, phone, laptop, and the internet. We live in a digital world and almost all the educational resources you need are at your fingertips. Almost every community has business hubs and networking opportunities and even if it is not in your specific location, it will be in a neighboring city for sure. Get out and meet like minded people and you will find that they love to tell what they know. Link up with a local support group and start talking about what it is you want to do, and you will start making connection you never knew you had.

Your vision has nothing to do with you being a parent, I have built my business with 6 children, and I have never had to stop parenting, I have always built my business around my children because they are not the sacrifice, I am willing to give to live my dream.

It is possible! Remember, you are Appointed Boss of your life.

Life is a gift from God to be unwrapped by you!
